THE district will be the focal point of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s proposed Basin Plan debate today.
Authority chairman Craig Knowles will be in attendance during a series of meeting being held at the Kerang Memorial Hall this afternoon.
Authority staff will host a roundtable “open house” forum at the hall from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Four tables will be setup focusing on specific matters, with themes including environmental flows, local impact and others.
A separate meeting will be held on the day between stakeholders and Mr Knowles.
The authority’s largest meeting to be held within close proximity to the district is tomorrow’s session at the Swan Hill Grain Shed, 2-8 King Street, from 1pm to 4pm.
The Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie is encouraging residents to have their say on the plan, which recommends reallocating 2750 gigalitres annually to the environmental needs of the country’s largest river system.
“No one understands the importance of a sustainable river system and environment more than the people living in it,” Senator McKenzie said.
“I’m encouraging all community members to get to the meeting to tell the MDBA about local water saving initiatives and impart their wealth of knowledge about the system.”
