Highway work begins

31 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM

WORK has started on repairing a section of the Murray Valley Highway which has closed since flooding 13 months ago.

The 1.8-kilometre section between the junction with the Loddon Valley Highway and Sleepy Lane, south-east of Kerang, has been closed since it was ripped up to provide an emergency flood protection levee to protect the town's southern perimeter.

Traffic has been diverted from the highway along Sleepy Lane, Kerang-Koondrook Road and Airport Road back to the highway.

Contractors engaged by VicRoads to reconstruct the road are also repairing a section of the Kerang-Koondrook Road between the Pyramid Creek and Kenny Road.

A section of the Murray Valley Highway on Kerang's north-western side near the railway crossing is also scheduled to be repaired within the next two months.
