MAJOR road repairs are occurring at the southern end of Kerang’s industrial estate following damage caused by heavy traffic.
The majority of the damage along Tate Drive occurred as a result of traffic increasing during the floods last year where the area was used as a location to fill sandbags.
Gannawarra Shire director of infrastructure, planning and regulatory services, Geoff Rollinson said the council is repairing the corner of the road which has failed and become hazardous.
“The corner is the main concern,” he said
Mr Rollinson said the council decided to repair the road by taking out failed pavements and putting in new material.
The paddock surrounding the road also has many mounds of dirt from creating Tate Drive, which have created a haven for rabbits.
Mr Rollinson said the dirt will be scraped up and relocated to the Kerang landfill as coverage material.
“We couldn’t mow it or maintain it so we’re going to pick it up and use what’s broken up,” he said.
Mr Rollinson said tidying up the location will also make the land more attractive for the sale of industrial sites.
The shire is also planning to install new underground drainage on Tate Drive whilst the repair works occur.
