FORMER Northern District Football Umpires' Association member Ken Sutton has been described as a man who poured himself into his officiating and will be remembered for his good humour among his colleagues.
Sutton passed away on December 27. Most recently he had umpired in Maryborough.
NDFUA representative Scott Bourne said the field and goal umpire, known around the Golden Rivers Football League as "Sutto", joined the local officiating group in 2007.
After spending the majority of that season in goal, he switched to field duties in 2008.
During his time with the NDFUA, Sutton officiated as a field umpire in the 2008 under 17 grand final in which Wandella beat Murrabit.
"Goal umpiring-wise he did the reserves grand final in 2007 and the Murrabit-Nullawil preliminary final in the seniors," said Bourne.
Sutton also won the Association's goal umpiring award in 2007.
Bourne said Sutton "gave his heart and soul" in both disciplines for the NDFUA and that it was pleasing to see that Sutton's local experience served him well enough for him to carry on in another league.
When asked what Sutton will be best remembered for, Bourne simply said "his larrikinism".
At this stage, the NDFUA board has not met to discuss or indicate whether there would be a memorial of some kind linked in with Sutton's time with the organisation.
