TWO rivalry bowling clubs will be competing for the Shannon Wise Challenge Cup at Kerang Bowling Club this Saturday in a men’s division one pennant.
Kerang Bowling Club president Kevin Teasdale and Kerang Golf Bowling Club president Dale Hancock have come together in the hope to bring more awareness about bowls and play out a long standing rivalry between the two clubs.
The cup will also honour significant deceased bowling members, David Lyle (Darby) Shannon from the Kerang Bowling Club and John Wise from the Kerang Golf Bowling Club,
Darby Shannon who died last October at age 87 joined the Kerang Bowling Club in 1957. Mr Hancock said he was “one of the best bowlers around” and held many positions at the club including district councillor.
Similarly, John Wise was considered a great competitor on the green. Mr Teasdale said he was also a “good motivator.”
Both presidents think Saturday will be a good game. The last game between the two teams was a nail-biting win for Kerang Golf Bowling Club after defeating Kerang Bowling Club by only seven shots overall.
Mr Teasdale intends to reinvigorate bowling as a sport. He said, “If anyone thinks bowls isn’t competitive, they should come have a look on Saturday.”
