A COHUNA pair triumphed in hot conditions at Kerang on Friday to win the Northern District Bowling Association ladies champion of champions pairs title.
After over six hours of play across two games in hot weather Cohuna's Betty O'Brien and Jan Morton won the title from Leitchville pair, Val Dehne and Roma Opie.
The Cohuna duo will now represent NDBA at Irymple on February 9 and 10.
The eventual winners had a good match in their morning semi-final against Kerang Golf's Lorraine Ritchie and Faye Burton to win 20-13, despite Kerang Golf taking the early lead, and an excellent display of leading from Lorraine.
The Cohuna ladies then had to face off against Leitchville's Val Dehne and Roma Opie, who earlier defeated Cohuna Golf's Val Pigdon and Rhonda Ballard in their semi-final.
The greens were in good condition, but the wind provided a tricky challenge during the match.
Despite this all of the ladies were very consistent and regularly produced good bowls.
On the last of their 18 ends in the final Cohuna were winning by three shots and managed to pick up one last point to finish four points in the lead with 15-19.
Both skippers had won big events like this before and were courteous at the end of play.
"They got the jump on us and we clawed our way back," said runner-up Roma Dye on how the game changed over the day.
"It was great bowls by the four of us".
Jan Morton, the winning skipper said, "It was befitting a final. I've won district events, but I've never won this before so I am very excited."
During the speeches she thanked everyone involved in the match, whereas Roma Dye revealed a more personal motivation which drove her through to the district final.
"Val was my fill-in because my best mate's fighting cancer at the moment."
